We left Jesus Pobre on Sunday 9th August 2009 at 9.40 and reached the Hotel in Guadalquivir in Galicia at 4.20 pm. We had two shortstops and travelled 613kms. A long day
The Hotel Posada del Pinar is just outside Medina del Campo.
Lovely setting in the countryside but would not recommend it for a second visit although a period building it was beginning to look as though they do not care – ate a meal in the evening which was very obviously from a freezer. At €95 + IVA a night and a poor meal. Not a good start. Invoice in file.
On Monday 10th we left the hotel at 9 am and arrived at Hotel Pozo de Souza in Carballo at 2.30 pm We were now in total 1,116 kms from home.
The hotel was built in 1672 by the Marquis of Montenegro, on a medieval tower in an ancient Celtic hill fort, and opened its doors in 1992 as one of the first rural tourism houses in Galicia. It was hard to find but worth it in the end. We ate the first night in the hotel but as it was so good we ate there for the whole week. Our bill was €866 for the week including breakfast, drinks, evening meals and wine. Other than barking dogs at night would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
On Tuesday we did the Ruta Oriental, buying some pots in Buño on the way

On Wednesday we visited Santiago and did the Noia and the Ruta Sur trip

On Thursday we went to play golf at Golpe Pitch and Putt course and then went to the beach near Cambia
On Friday we went on the Ruta Occidental trip
and had lunch at a lovely beach between Muxia and Camarinas Praia do Lago

On Saturday we played golf again
Sunday we visited La Coruna, the second biggest city in Galicia, travelling back through Betanzas and then another golf round.
We left the hotel the following morning and headed for Chinchon, south of Madrid, passing under Madrid in a very long tunnel. This was a great place (see long video) (or short video ) and we arrived at the end of their week of bullfighting. We had a super meal at La Balconada and stayed the night at Hotel Condesa de Chinchon (€70) which is right in the middle of the town next to the Parador and good value to see this old town with its plaza.
Our photos
Drove back on Tuesday morning. A great holiday with an unexpectedly good night in Chinchon. A round trip of nearly 3,000 kms and a total cost of about €1,800.
The file has map of Galicia, Costa de Morte, town maps of La Coruna and Chincon, the three ‘rutas’ that we followed from Carballo and all three hotel bills, the poem read out at the BBQ, plus a couple of golf scorecards (we both won one round),
