Thursday 9th May 15.15
Arrived early in Denia to board the Eleanor Roosevelt ferry to Mallorca after leaving Angel with Lisa for the week. Very busy with many cars. We left Denia at 5.00 and stopped in Ibiza to let people off. Just had a couple of drinks on the ferry and watched a film. Quite a relaxing 5-hour journey with no panic from Tony! Arrived in Palma at 22.30 – Very difficult to find the way to Hotel UR Palacio. In the end, we stopped a taxi and followed him. Parked in Station carpark by hotel and left car there for 2 nights. We went out for a drink and found it difficult to find anywhere open, but we finally managed our usual V & T and G & T
Friday 10th May
Breakfast in the hotel, then we walked to the Cathedral and on the way went into a large market which we came back to for lunch (See pictures), We had a rest in the afternoon then walked the streets back to the Cathedral where I had a birthday treat of a carriage ride. On the way back to the hotel, we had our usual evening drinks at La Primavera. We went out later and visited ABACO, but as it was so busy, we did not stop (I just wanted Tony to see the beautiful bar). Had a lovely meal close by at La Cueva with a nice German family next to us and a very noisy UK ladies group opposite.
Here are the photos from Palma
Then off to Andraxt where Jo used to own some land and later a holiday home
Saturday 11th May
Left Palma around 10.00 after paying for 2 nights of parking. Visited Paguera on the way and had drinks at Marrson Port bar. How this place has changed and beginning to realise how expensive Mallorca now is. We went to Santa Ponsa where Mum and Gerry used to live. Not recognisable anymore, I travelled the coastal route. All around the Mola were large, new, expensive properties. Arrived at Hotel Brismar in Puerto Andratx. The room was not ready, so we went for tapas at Ferns restaurant. Good food and good service, but again, as we looked around the restaurants, everything was so expensive. Back to the hotel, and although it was going through renovation, the room was overlooking the port, but as we found out later, when Tims Bar opened at night – it was very noisy! We had our usual drinks at 6.30 on the terrace of the hotel over the sea. What a price for our usual two drinks – 28 euros!! Evening meal at Grand Pasta – again, €58 for two hamburgers and 2 drinks!!
Sunday 12th May
I had a late breakfast and then drove to see my old house and the land I sold, which now has a huge house on it. There are lots of large new properties since I used to come on holiday to Puerto Andratx. We had lunch on the Brismar Sea Terrace. We rested and then went out to watch Arsenal and Man U at Guinness Pub! Evening Meal at Casa Ton Lots of music at Tims Bar again!

Monday 13th May
Small breakfast at the hotel and left at 10.00 to drive to Puerto Pollensa through the mountains. Shortly into the drive, I did not feel well and was sick a few times and had to keep stopping; it was a four-and-a-half trip on twisty mountainous roads. Arrived at Hotel Hoposa Villaconcha feeling really ill.
Tony asked the hotel to call for a doctor and Doctor Marcos Nuñez arrived and did a brief examination and then called for an ambulance, which took us to a private hospital, Juaneda Muro, about 20 minutes way at Playa de Muro. He said the state hospital was too far away and the hospital brochure said ‘The only hospital in the north of the island’. He charged 150 euros! We left our car at the hotel, and Tony came in the ambulance.
The hospital contacted our insurance company. I had a scan below my right breast and then was put on two drips and spent the night in the hospital. Luckily a spare bed in the room made it possible for Tony to stay the night as well. A urine sample, as well as a blood test and blood pressure, were taken.
Tuesday 14th May
I had a disturbed night, but a doctor arrived at 9 a.m. and said they would do an ultrasound test but thought I would be in the hospital for another night. We had a small argument about this, as I wanted to leave. We received an email from the insurance company with permission to go ahead, which we forwarded to the hospital. I had had nothing to eat or drink since Puerto Andratx. Tony just had a Snickers bar and some water.
At 9.30 Tony went to see Lynn at the hospital office, and she could not say when the ultrasound would be done. She was aware that we had threatened to discharge ourselves. The problem looked around the kidneys and liver, with inflammation and possible kidney stones.
Went for an ultrasound at 9.55. At 10.25, I sent an update to the Insurance Company. 10.50 am back from ultrasound. I told Tony the technician has said it was ‘Borderline’. Whatever that meant. At 11.45am. discussion with doctor on having an MRI and we finally agreed for them to apply for permission from the Insurance company and commence with antibiotics.
At 12.03 WhatsApp from insurance to check out tomorrow Wednesday. 12.25 sent WhatsApp to Insurance agent saying OK to catch ferry Thursday morning and asking them to send the Medical Report to Salud (with SIP No) also to keep Eva at Mark Petrie’s informed.
12.55 Email sent to Insurers asking what to do after saying they are asking permission for MRI scan and whether we should drive to Palma tomorrow and catch Thursday ferry. Gave SIP no again.
14.35 Rang Insurance as hospital had not received permission for antibiotics or MRI scan. Spoke to Jesus who will follow up. Tried calling Arturo but no answer. 15.45 Email to Arturo. 16.20 Rang Mark Petrie’s office 58919777 and found Arturo out all day. Told them of info sent to Arturo. 16.45 Eva (MP office) rang back. She is chasing Jesus, who is still looking at medical reports. She didn’t advise discharge – cancelling boat and hotel is covered. She said she would have her mobile with her all evening.
17.45 Tony took a taxi to the hotel to pick up our cases, which we had left there. 20.15 Eva called to say the Insurance company would be calling in a few minutes. At 21.04, she rang the insurance company again. 21.07 Ev sent message “ if not called in 30 min to call her back” 21.35 we spoke to Lindomar at Insurance company on 913441155 who said it was not clear from hospital that scan and ultrasound had been done. They were waiting for confirmation from the hospital. He told me they had rung me twice, and no reply (No record of this on either my or Tony’s phone. I confirmed all had been done and they said they would confirm with hospital tonight and they would have confirmation tonight or first thing in the morning. I left a WhatsApp with Eva (MP) to confirm all this.
Wednesday 15th May (My Birthday)
8.05 Tony spoke to hospital, and they hadn’t received anything! 8.10 Rang Eva (MP) and brought her up to date and she will chase insurance company 9.20 sent email to Eva. Spoke to Lynn in the hospital and paid €860 euros privately for MRI as we wanted to leave hospital. When we had asked about cost the previous day we were told €300 to €400-
10.20 I spoke to insurance company who said they had to hear from my medical doctor in Salud to confirm that I had no related problems before taking out insurance. I told them (as this would take some time) it would mean a delay in having the MRI and could be at least another day in Hospital, pointing out the cost to them of a another night in hotel in Palma, and a cancelled ferry crossing on Thursday. As we could pay ourselves and save time and have the MRI today this is what we did. I spoke to Eva and she is sending an email for me to forward to the insurance company saying “if they find no related problems then they would have to reimburse the cost to us.”
We arranged to see Eva in Javea on Friday when we returned. 10.50 Doctor and translator came to say MRI would be 14.30, but results could be tomorrow – and this was not in their hands. They explained I had a serious infection and it was dangerous for me to discharge myself. They wanted me to wait for results, and they did not advise me to leave.
At 11.45 we gave bottle of wine to Lynn for her help
At 14.58 Taken for an MRI Back from the MRI at 15.50 and requested discharge papers together with the report of the previous two tests and asked them to forward the MRI results to our email for us to give to our Doctor/hospital
I left the hospital and arrived at Hotel Catalonia Mallorca at 17.35.
The second hotel we hardly had any time in but a smart hotel and here is a view from it
We had a most needed G & T, and V & T Went for a short walk to get bearings for an early morning drive to the ferry. Had a small evening meal and collapsed in bed.
Thursday 16th May
Caught the ferry and arrived home thankfully at 14.30.
