Our trip to Canada can be broken down into a few sections.
Lions Bay where David, Aoife and family live, Vancouver and the surrounding area
and then because they kindly let us borrow a car we had trips away, firstly to Vancouver Island and later a time in the wine area north of Vancouver
Jan had come to house sit for us and arrived late in the evening on Monday 3rd August.
We then left Alicante airport on Wednesday 5th August on a 23.50 EasyJet flight to Gatwick arriving at 1.25 on the Thursday.
After a few hours hanging around at Gatwick, we checked in Canadian Affair Flight which left at 09.25, arriving in Vancouver at 11.15 their time (still Thursday), so with a 9 hour time difference about an 11-hour flight.
There we were met by David and spent the next nine days at their lovely house in Lions Bay.
A rainbow over Lions Bay
Some family photos were taken during our stay
On 9th August we went with the family to the Sea to Sky gondola
Some photos of that day
On 11th August we went to Granville Island (and video)
and Kitsilano.
On 14th August we took a trip to the 140 metre long Capilano suspension bridge over the Capilano river.
On Sunday 16th August we caught the 10.40 car ferry from nearby Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo, arriving at 12.20 and drove the 48 kms to Qualicum to stay at the Charm of Qualicum.
Looking at the internet in January 2019 this house is now up for sale in August 2018.
On the day we arrived we ate at the Fish Tales restaurant
On the 17th we went to MacMillan Park
and on the same day visited the Little Qualicum Falls
After two nights at Charm of Qualicum, we drove to Strathcona Park Lodge but on the way, we went to Milner Woods
We went on the Uchuck boat and visited Yuquot island
Our photos from that trip
On 20th August we left Strathcona and drove to Ucluelet
We stayed at the West Coast Hotel and in our travels came across
and also, which reminded us of John and Diana
The next day, Friday 21st we left Ucluelet and drove to Nanaimo where we caught the 19.30 ferry back to Horseshoe Bay, arriving at 21.10.
We spent the next three days at David and Aoife’s and left on Tuesday 25th when we drove to Lillooet, via Whistler.
Continuing our trip of 3 hours. We drove to Lillooet and stayed at the Reynold’s Hotel in the town.
The next day we drove to West Kelowna, a journey of three and a half hours and booked into a lake view suite at the Lake B&B for two nights. Included in this stay was a Wine Tour with Sam in his red Chevrolet. We are not sure whether he is still operating as couldn’t find his website in 2020.
Then we a drive to Manning Park and had one night at the Manning Park Resort
and the next day travelled back to Lions Bay, where we stayed for the next four days.
Jo went to a Sunday service at the St Francis-in-the-wood Anglican church in West Vancouver and a pamphlet is in the file.
We’d visited a number of times a nearby town which we liked called Ambleside and on another trip on 23rd August we went to the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver where we took some photos
On Wednesday the 2nd of September, we caught the 13.50 Canadian Affair flight from Vancouver arriving at Gatwick on the 3rd at 7.20. Then the 12.20 Easyjet flight back to Alicante, arriving at 15.50.
Having arrived on 3rd Jan stayed with us until she returned to the UK late Monday 7th September.
In the file are leaflets on Sea to Sky, Qualicum, Capilano Suspension Bridge, Milner Gardens, MacMillan Park, Ucluelet, Strathcona Park, a map of Kelowna and Vancouver. We also have a book on Vancouver in the library.
The cost of the trip was a little over €6,000, with airfares of €2,400 and hotels/food €2,500 together with entrance fees on trips etc
